Frequently Asked Questions

Why Sacramento Valley Satellite?

We are an authorized retailer for Dish Network and Direct TV. As a small local retailer, we answer our own phones and in the event we don't answer, we do call people back (provided you leave a number and a message). This means you don't have to go through 1-800 phone numbers, prompts and different countries unless it suits your needs. We communicate the programs and charges very clearly and walk you through all the nuances of your installation. We know no one likes surprises so we go over all the costs and options with you, so you can make an educated decision. We like to say we read the fine print for you before you make your final decision.

We also do not shy away from a job because of a degree of difficulty. We understand satellite and home theater equipment. We know how a home needs to be wired and set up for custom installations. If you have a large home, expensive audio video equipment, tile roof or some other difficult configuration we can make the custom install happen. The cost for the custom install will vary depending on the configuration and degree of difficulty.

Who installs our system you or Dish?

SVS is responsible for your install. We have installers that are professional and install according to manufacturers standards or better. They will walk you through everything before the install is started so you understand where the Dish will be placed and where the lines will be run. If this cannot be easily achieved they will go over this with you and come up with a plan. If we cannot get a satellite signal we will walk away from the install.

What does “Basic Installation” mean?

Basic installation means up to 4 rooms with outside walls. If there is a degree of difficulty such as; having to fish a wall, go into the attic, mount under an eave or on a tile roof or crawl under the house, depending on the circumstance, there could be additional fees. The installer will go over this with you prior to any work being done. With many of the new roof styles on homes today tile mounts are becoming more and more necessary for a proper satellite installation. The cost of a tile mount is $99 plus tax. These are not part of a basic installation and are an added cost to SVS as well. We know it may not be a cost you want to incur however it may be necessary to properly install your dish. If we can avoid using the tile mount we will give you that option.

Why does there need to be a phone line plugged into my Satellite receiver?

Both Dish and Direct like to have phone lines or an Ethernet connection plugged into the back of your receivers for ease in paying bills and ordering pay per view and downloading movies. It allows for a more interactive experience with your provider.

What if I have a question on a Sunday afternoon or after hours?

You can always call us at 916-782-4085. If we don't answer, it could mean we are on the other line or just out of the office for awhile. Leave us a message and we will call you back. If it is an urgent video issue we will do our best to get back to you promptly. Just make sure you leave your name, number, and what issue you are experiencing. If it is not an urgent issue, we ask for your patience until the next business day.

Do you have promotions that are not available anywhere else?

All of the Dish Network programs are National Programs. We go over these programs with you in detail so you can make an informed decision on what is right for your needs and application. We don't like surprises and know our customers don't either.

If I am an existing customer can I upgrade?

Yes, Dish Network has programs available for existing customers. Just ask us how you can "Dish it up." Direct TV will also upgrade existing customers, but you will have to contact them directly.

What is a DVR?

Digital Video Recorder (think TIVO only better). You can press the pause button and your live TV will be put on hold so you can answer a phone call. You can do live instant replay, record your favorite TV shows and then watch them when want. Depending on the DVR you can have up to 350 hours of Standard Definition record time and 55 hours of High Definition record time. Both DVR'S are free. There is a monthly usage fee of $5 per DVR. Once you have a DVR you will wonder how you lived without it!

Can I use Tivo with my Dish or Direct TV System?

No, not really. It is not designed to interface with the Dish or Direct TV System. It can be problematic. It is best to use the Dish or Direct DVR, the equipment is free and the usage fee is only $5 TIVO’S monthly charge is around $12. However, if you are a cable customer we will be happy to sell you a TIVO machine as we are an authorized retailer of those as well.

Does the Satellite System go out during storms?

This is a common misconception. It all comes down to a proper installation and maximum signal strength. I’ve seen those cable commercials - and they are kind of funny - but the fact of the matter is if you go to any cable company, what do you see in their front yard? Satellite dishes of all sizes.

I want to put my satellite receiver in a TV cabinet, will that be okay?

Your satellite receiver is a piece of electrical equipment and the DVR is similar to a computer hard drive. The receivers need proper ventilation in order to work properly and not overheat. If you have a lot of wiring and other devices in the same area without proper ventilation it can cause your receiver to overheat and affect its performance and life expectancy. It is best to treat your receiver with respect and care and keep the area clean and properly ventilated.

How can I program my Dish Network remote to my TV?

Note: After this procedure is started and a button is not pressed within 20 seconds, the remote will end the procedure automatically. Simply start over again.

1. Verify the remote is a DISH Network remote and that it is the correct remote for this TV. Remote 1 (green tab at bottom of remote) for TV 1, Remote 2 (blue tab at bottom of remote) for TV 2.

2. With the desired equipment on, press and hold the TV Mode button (Clear TV button on upper left of remote) until all mode button backlights illuminate (about 3 seconds), then release.

3. Press and release the Red Power button.

4. Press the Up Arrow button once per second (go slowly, if you pass the code you will have to repeat the entire procedure. This process can be fast or sometimes take 5–10 minutes) while pointing the remote at the desired equipment. When the code for the equipment comes up, the equipment will power off.

5. Press the POUND (#) button. If the code entered is valid for the remote, the mode light flashes three times.

6. Press the Red TV button. The TV should turn on.

7. Press the Volume and see if it works. Press the Guide button and see if that works. If the guide does not come up press the clear SAT button and then try again.
